Shadow is compatible with most microphones on Windows and macOS operating systems. To use a microphone, use the Quick Menu to enable your microphone or turn on USB peripherals. Make sure to Test Your Microphone on your local computer and Shadow once you're finished.
Note: The microphone is not available on Android and iOS applications.
To connect your microphone:
- Test your microphone using your local device first.
Shadow may not detect your microphone if it doesn't work on your device. - Start Shadow.
- Once Shadow has started, open the Shadow Quick Menu.
To open the Quick Menu:
- Windows: Alt + Win + O
- macOS: Cmd + Options + O
- Click the Microphone tab to enable and forward your microphone.
- Click the checkbox next to Enable microphone (A)
- Select your microphone from the list of input devices (B)
Using USB Peripherals
If you're using a USB microphone or headset, you can enable USB Peripherals in Shadow, then choose your device from the Quick Menu.
Note: If you connect the microphone from the USB Peripheral menu, disable it in the Microphone tab. You should only use one method or the other.
To connect your microphone using USB Peripherals:
- Shut Down your Shadow.
Click the Helpicon, then Shut Down Shadow.
- Test your microphone using your local device first.
Shadow may not detect your microphone if it doesn't work on your device. - From the Shadow launcher, click the Settings
icon.
- Click the checkbox to enable USB Peripherals.
- Start Shadow, then open the Shadow Quick Menu.
To open the Quick Menu:
- Windows: Alt + Win + O
- macOS: Cmd + Options + O
- Go to the USB Peripherals tab.
- Select your microphone from the list of available devices to forward it to Shadow.
Test Your Microphone on Windows
Launch your favorite VoiP app, use in-game chat, start recording, or see Microsoft's article on how to set up and test microphones in Windows 10.
If your microphone still isn't working:
- Right-click the Sound Icon on the taskbar and choose Sounds
- On the Recording tab, choose your microphone and click Properties
- In the Levels tab, confirm the sound is not muted. If you see an icon similar to the one below, click on the icon to unmute it.
