Configuration is not able to work with the video resolution of your Shadow (Error 301)


If your Shadow or your game does not match your computer or monitor's current resolution, or your resolution is not supported, your Shadow may display the following error message:

Error 301: Your configuration does not seem to be able to work with the video resolution of your Shadow. Please try again later or restart your Shadow. 



Depending on the circumstance, you may need to apply one of two solutions:


Change your resolution

From your Shadow, change the resolution so that it matches both your current device and monitor.  This may require you to access your Shadow from a different device. If you're not sure what resolution to use, try decreasing your resolution until the error no longer appears. For more information, see how to set a custom resolution.


Change your game's resolution

If you experienced this issue after launching a game or similar software in Shadow, change the game's resolution manually using the game's configuration file or contact the developer for assistance. 

Should the issue persist, contact Shadow support.

  • My PC is currently set to a resolution of 2560x1080. If I attempt to set my shadow PC to that resolution (which is given as an option), it gives me the Error 301.

    Is my only option to lower my local resolution?

  • Hi my 4K tv is set to resolution 4096x2160 and i run my local PC at this (windows 10). Im getting the 301 error i cant get above 1080x1920 using the shadow service. I've updated all drivers. Please help as this is a deal breaker for me.

    2560x1080 is fully compatible with Shadow.
    Please check your local and Shadow configuration and restart your Shadow's Windows.

    Hello Lee,
    4K resolution is only achievable with very high speed internet bandwidth.
    Please check that your internet connection allows your to stream such a resolution and restart your Shadow's Windows.

    For both of you, if the above doesn't work, please go to the Nvidia control panel on your Shadow to create a custom resolution.
    If you still encounter the problem, please contact customer support from your personal account.
